A log of our grand adventure

Last night
We spent our last night at a magical spot in the Karoo.
Die Mond is a paradise in a desert experiencing a drought.

Bed
We've been sleeping in a bed these last few days.
I can't say I miss having a bed. Nasty things. I do miss having a pillow though. Pillows are nice.
Staying at Enjo Farm. The Western Cape drought is extreme. It's looks like the end of the dry season, but it's only just begun.
One more stop, 2 more nights, and this adventure is over.

Factors of 3, and wild camping
- We've been moving at 1/3 of our anticipated pace.
- We've been spending 3 times as much as we've budgeted for.
Our bank accounts tell us it's time to head back to Cape Town. We're coming to the end of our robot monkey's African adventure.
We've been in a bit of an accommodation desert, so we've been asking herders and farmers if we can sleep on their land. Some of the best camping we've had!

Crime on the Orange River
We've been back in South Africa for a week and we've already been victims of a robbery and an act of vandalism during a 2nd attempted robbery.
A Monkey stole our grapes minutes after arriving at Augrabies. This morning a monkey got into our tent and took a bite out of a pack of tissues.

The Nossob 'River'
We were lucky to have a few cold days. A strong wind blowing all the way from the Antarctic.
The heat is back, it's 10 am and the Jackal are already panting.

The Kalahari
We have arrived at the edge of the harsh and unrelenting Kalahari desert.
Will we survive? Two more nights and we're back in South Africa.

How to get stuck, and stay stuck in three easy steps
We took a wrong turn (many many many wrong turns really), when we were in Walvis Bay. We learnt some important lessons that everyone who drives a car with a little button that says "4L" should know.
1. Confidence
Stop and chat with other people you meet along the way who are stuck. Laugh at their folly as you leave them behind, confident that the same won't happen to you.
2. Spin
Spin spin spin. Spin until your undercarriage is nestling on the ground and you only see the very top of your wheels.
3. Equipment
Don't bother bringing an appropriate jack and recovery tracks.
For bonus points:
- make sure the tide is busy coming in.
- don't bother driving on roads.
- make sure there are no rocks or sticks you could use for additional grip.

Re-provisioning and recovering in Windhoek.

Clouds, thunder, lightning, rainbows...
We're camping in a river. In most places on the planet, this would be an alarm bell. 'River' has a different meaning here, involving sand, not water.
Tomorrow we sleep in Windhoek.

Hot day, elephants in camp
Boy oh boy. Tourist should be forced pass some very basic wildlife knowledge tests before being allowed into the country. Silly city people.

Good to be on the move
Lichen fields, ancient volcano craters, seal colonies, shipwrecks, canyons, jackal... It's good to be on the move again.
Ugab River
Usually 'river' is used to describe a part of the desert that has a lonely piece of grass, or dead tree.
We passed two vehicles stuck in the mud and continued North.
East
Today we're going to hit the Northern most limit of our trip, and then start heading East.
Goodbye Atlantic. Goodbye you freezing Benguela current!

On the road again
We've done it! We've actually left Swakopmund and are heading North. Almost a month after we first arrived.
We clocked 5000km as we left. That's 5000km driven in 3 months.
Stuck in sandy
Our everyday adventures are always fuelling Orion's games. He got the technical details down pretty accurately. Unfortunately we didn't have a ramp to get out, that was his invetion.
